This staffer spent the greater part of her extra time floating the Comal River one summer, courtesy of good friends who lived just off the public tuber’s exit. That summer our favorite record to slap on the turntable after getting off the river was Blue Screen Life, a piece of avant-pop perfection by San Diego indie-rockers Pinback. They’ve a penchant for warped quirkiness that’s pretty and ethereal, the songs buoyant and lively at times, melancholy and dark at others, yet always possessing an unmistakable intensity just under the surface. Pinback is weird, but pleasantly so — paired with a sunny day, cold beer, and good friends, their multi-layered, intelligent rock generates a decidedly content state of mind, reaffirming that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. $15, 8pm, Rock Bottom,
