Named one of the 25 funniest people in America by Entertainment Weekly, Dave Attell often uses his infatuation with alcohol, drinking alcohol, and what happens after you drink alcohol to anchor his set. But it isn’t his material that makes his show so great — it’s his delivery. While jokes about drunken escapades, porn, and potheads don’t really break comic ground, Attell’s energy and pristine timing are his claims to fame. Attell’s always been kind of an asshole — if he wasn’t funny, he’d probably be a complete jerk. But the more obscene he gets, the better, mixing talk of pedophilia, bestiality, and other highly illegal acts for a funny and self-deprecating set. He’s also currently hosting Comedy Central’s resurrected skit “The Gong Show,” which brings midget wrestlers, strippers, circus folk and other freaky acts on the show to be cornered by celebrity judges. $32.50, 7:30pm, Empire Theatre, 226 N. St. Mary’s, majesticempire.com.
