The days of the brash, coke-fueled (ie., genius) Oasis are over. The brothers Gallagher have become nothing more than a singles band since their mid-’90s output, producing two or three great songs for every other so-so album. That trend continues with Dig Out Your Soul, but there still is enough charm left in this four-piece to keep them relevant. The world’s best-known Beatles thieves nick elements from the Magical Mystery Tour on their seventh album. Noel plays McCartney with his six populist cuts such as “The Turning” and “Shock of Lightning” functioning as better-than-average stompers. Meanwhile, Liam channels Lennon with surprising results. “I’m Outta Time” and closer “Soldier On” equal the quality of big brother’s tunes for the first time. For those of you waiting for the next (What’s The Story?) Morning Glory, however, you’re more likely to see Noel get attacked on stage again — check YouTube, people — before that happens.
