The smell of Sam’s juicy burgers and the explosion of local musical talent make Calavera Fest ’08 a sure best bet for the Halloween weekend. Local barrio-big band Bombasta has coordinated some of San Antonio’s best musicians and artists for a night of celebration, remembrance, and entertainment that highlights the rich culture and wealth of talent in the city. Local actor, director, and activist Rodney Garza guides the audience through selections by local musicians, whose individual sounds span traditional Mexican, hip-hop, punk, salsa, funk, and reggae. Confirmed acts include Bombasta, Azul, Piñata Protest, Herb N Café, Prhymemates, and Mexican Step-Grandfather. Local visual artists will install Dia de los Muertos in the venue as an act of remembrance. $10, 8pm, Sam’s Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson St., samsburgerjoint.com
