INT. My subconscious – day. My inner 16-year-old boy is jumping up and down, squealing in a way that would embarrass my inner 6-year-old girl.
Me: What are you doing?
My inner 16-year-old: Holy eff, dude! The Misfits are totally playing here on Sunday! (begins to play a spastic air-guitar version of “Skulls”). “Teenagers From Mars!” “Last Caress!” “Where Eagles Dare!” Glenn Danzig! All those other guys!
Me: Glenn Danzig left the Misfits when you were, like, a fetus. I heard if you even say his name in the same sentence as his old band he kicks your ass. (Pauses to consider last statement.) Uh-oh.
My inner 16-year-old: Oh, yeah. (plays air guitar less enthusiastically) But his replacement,
Michale Graves, isn’t bad. I mean, “Saturday Night” is pretty wicked.
Me: (sighing) Graves left in 2000. Bassist Jerry Only took over vocal duties. Now he and Robo, drummer from an early ’80s lineup, tour with former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena. You’re basically paying $20 bucks to see the best, most authentic Misfits cover band ever.
My inner 16-year-old: (considering this for a moment) Aw, hell yeah. We are 138, baby!
