Since being diagnosed with epilepsy in 2001, Justin Moyer (formerly of El Guapo and Antelope) has a new project — channeling the spirit, and taking the moniker of, Warhol’s hollow, though luminous, arm-piece, Edie Sedgwick. Moyer, perhaps influenced by the sporadic neurological misfires caused by his relatively new condition, now performs in cocktail dresses and has shifted from arty punk to glitchy lo-fi electronica. Claiming to be the “transgendered reincarnation of a vacuous Andy Warhol Superstar,” Moyer delves into the celebrity mind on third album Things Are Getting Sinister and Sinisterer.
In this shiny, erratic collection of songs named for famous people, Moyer alternately points furious fingers and shrugs his sequin-clad shoulders. Album opener “Sissy Spacek” leans on the bass while Edie barks about pig’s blood. “Angelina Jolie” talks of babies and dismantling the “first-world identity,” while “Bambi/G.W. Bush” is fittingly slow to open before it completely explodes.
