Two of Texas’ groundbreaking groups join forces on stage to celebrate a common bond through music, dance, and verse in Saturday’s musical collaboration. Local barrio big band, Bombasta, host longtime friends and collaborators, El Paso-based collective Radio La Chusma, for a night of hybrid sound that promises to keep the crowd moving. The performance will highlight both groups’ unique melding of Latin and Afro-Caribbean beats with hip-hop, funk, and rock — all delivered through a post-modern, urban, and decidedly Chicano, perspective. Cross-pollination will be in the air, as both groups will alternate sets and sit in with each other throughout the night. This will be a unique chance for the audience to participate in the creative, spontaneous process of improvisation and collaboration, as both groups of talented musicians blur borders and limitations while striving to build unity through music.
