The Overtime Theater crew celebrates that February tingly feeling with Sob…Choke…Love II: Electric Boogaloo, the sequel to the theater’s most talked about show of 2008. From the 1950s to the 1970s, romance comics were in full bloom and little girls’ minds were forever warped — this troupe presents staged versions of these sappy, misogynistic, chauvinistic comic books in their full glory, complete with sexual innuendo and un-PC punch lines. Current theater critic Nicolette Good described the original Sob! Choke! Love! as “a playground of thought-bubble voiceovers, hand-held “vroom” and “wham” signs, and rasterized backdrops.” With six new stories, including “Dumb Doll” and “I Fell for My Soldier’s Buddy,” Sob…Choke…Love II promises to be just as weird and hilarious as the first go-round. OT will have a special “ ’70s High School Prom” theme for Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14 — the disco ball casts its magic, while a live band performs the Me Decade’s cheesiest hits before and after the show. $12 general, $9 students, 9:30pm Fridays, 8pm Saturdays, 8pm Thursday, February 12 and 2:30pm Sunday, February 22, Overtime Theatre, 1216 West Ave., (210) 380-0326.
