This Sunday, on the heels of the sixth anniversary of the Iraq War, filmmaker Rick Rowley comes to town, bringing three short films in a series called Beyond the Walls: The Battle for Iraq’s Future. Rowley just might be the most successful and prolific activist/gonzo filmmaker working today, having documented grassroots struggles across the world, most famously the WTO “Battle in Seattle” and the Zapatistas in Chiapas. Rowley’s works, along with other documentaries from the Big Noise Films catalog, are often just that, big films about urgent issues, told with a fast cutting style and loud music. When the mainstream media isn’t covering the story, sometimes you have to scream to be heard. Free, 3pm, Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, 922 San Pedro Ave.
