Yes, we admit it: We’re classing up our music pick this week by recommending something of a higher brow (defined by us as “an event where someone apologizes if he spills beer on you”), but don’t think we’ve gotten all classy and shit. It just happens that this entry in the Musical Bridges Around the World’s Main Stage concert series (past concert titles include “Bach in the Style of Jazz” and “If It Is Not Baroque Do Not Fix It!”) features some musicians with such killer résumés, they impress even our Lone Star-swilling semi-jazz-illiterate Philistine asses. Drummer Albert Heath has kept time for John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, and Nina freaking Simone, and you might recognize bass-clarinet player Bennie Maupin from such classic albums as Hancock’s Head Hunters, and Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew, On the Corner, and A Tribute to Jack Johnson. Polish bassist Dariusz Oleszkiewicz we can’t vouch for, but if he’s sharing the bill with these two and he sucks, we’ll eat our top hat. Yeah, so we’re wearing a top hat — wanna make something of it, tough guy? $20, 3pm Sun, Feb 28, McAllister Auditorium, San Antonio College, 1300 San Pedro, (210)464-1534, musicalbridges.org — Jeremy Martin
