Filmmaker Samuel Wainwright Douglas will introduce his one-hour documentary based on the life, career, and legacy of the late artist, architect, and educator Samuel Mockbee. In 1993, Mockbee and D.K. Ruth founded the Rural Studio, a prolific design-build program created to teach students about the social responsibilities of architecture while providing “inspirational homes” for impoverished communities in rural Alabama. On Thursday, AIA (American Institute of Architects) San Antonio’s Committee on the Environment and Slab Cinema will screen Citizen Architect on Pearl Stable’s lawn. A Q&A with Douglas follows the film. Free, 8pm, Pearl Stable lawn, 307 Pearl Pkwy, aiasa.org, guests are invited to bring blankets, but no coolers allowed; concessions available.
