While the San Antonio Symphony takes a breather until October 2 (when conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing debuts as music director with a program titled “Meet Your New Maestro”), specialized programs like the Cactus Pear Music Festival are ready to get their chamber on. CPMF promises their 14th season will be a “Pear(fect)” one, starting with Thursday’s “Restless Romantics: An Ambrosia of Romantics,” which celebrates two compos-
ers born in 1810 (Schumann and Chopin) and one born in 1910 (Samuel Barber). The ensemble boasts 13 “world class artists” with quite a few award-winners in the bunch. If you’re not sure you want to shell out the $22 ticket price for a full performance, free, shortened programs will be offered Wednesday and Friday as part of CPMF’s Young People’s Concerts (visit cpmf.us for details). $22, 7:30pm, Coker United Methodist Church, 231 E. North Loop Rd., (210) 494-3455, cpmf.us. CPMF’s A Pear(fect) Season runs July 8-18.
