Sometimes the best summer soundtracks aren’t designed for the poolside kegger or the top-down nighttime drive, but for the midday hammock ride. This EP from San Antonio’s down-tempo MVPs — available for free download at amarchitect.bandcamp.com — provides exactly that. Collecting five tracks predating last year’s stellar debut (The Road to the Sun), Adaptation is over all too soon, but in capturing Daniel Stanush (guitarist for Panic Division) and Diego Chavez (aka Pitchfork darling Aether) at their collaborative best, the album offers an organic melding of man and machine worthy of studied listening while supplying a glowing buzz ambient enough to leave on repeat all afternoon. Summer in San Antonio rarely seems so chill.
