International Beer Day Celebration

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2010-08-04

Invented only three years ago in Santa Cruz, California, International Beer Day is the U.S.’s response to Oktoberfest. This DIY holiday suggests that beer tastes even better in August, when the mercury in your thermometer is about to boil and the ice-cold beverage in your hand is about to make you very happy. Aside from the obvious (pub crawls, barbecues, and keg parties), the true spirit of IBD is in the giving. While presenting an icy cold one to a friend or stranger, make sure to say the magic words — “I bring you the gift of beer.” Free, all day Thursday, wherever it’s legal to pop one open. Can’t find a party? Alamo Drafthouse Park North (618 NW Loop 410) will celebrate IBD (in the lobby from 6:30-9:30pm) by offering beer swag and samples, and $2 off all pints. internationalbeerday.com, facebook.com/internationalbeerday.
