San Antonio (’scuse me, I meant St. Anthony’s Parish) being the land of the Irish and all, it’s no surprise Mike McColgan, ex-frontman for the Dropkick Murphys, would bring his latest Celtic punk band to town. The group boasts a backstory more Irish-American than Dennis Leary. After McColgan (five shamrock points) ditched the Dropkicks (seven shamrock points) to fulfill a lifelong fantasy of being a firefighter (four shamrock points) with the Boston Fire Department (eleven billion shamrock points), he was pulled back into the music world in 2002. He formed Street Dogs, touting a sound leaner than tourmates Flogging Molly (seven shamrock points) and more uplifting than the Dropkick Murphys. Over the past eight years Street Dogs has produced five full-length albums (three shamrock points for fecundity), including their latest self-titled effort, released Aug. 31 on Hellcat. So, we’re up to 11,000,000,026 shamrock points, meaning that any SA residents with an ounce of Irish blood must proceed to the show on Tuesday and order a double shot of Jameson immediately or risk having that Celtic knot shoulder tattoo ripped from their flesh.
