There’s two ways of looking at the latest EP from metalcore band/Ohio-bred Christians The Devil Wears Prada: (A) the songs are too long or (B) it’s a great deal! This reviewer falls into camp A, believing that the best part of the metalcore genre is its blissful brevity. There’s no way you can sustain moshing for five whole minutes. That’s like a mosh-eternity. Around the 3:30 mark, you’ve gotta have a breather. But maybe the long songs are appropriate for this release, as the Zombie EP deals exclusively with subjects that refuse to die during a zombie apocalypse. Welcome to Brain Eater-ville, where songs “Escape,” “Anatomy,” “Outnumbered,” “Revive,” and “Survivor” give you a pretty good idea of what’s in store thematically. Musically, the Devil Wears Prada continues to grow ever more brutal, with occasional strings and a soaring operatic chorus accenting the straightforward metal and bowels-of-hell vocals. With its accompanying t-shirt and comic book (available at Hot Topic, duh), maybe the EP really is a great deal, at least for zombie lovers.
