Created by Miles Axe Copeland III (founder of I.R.S. Records and former manager of brother Stewart’s band, The Police), the Bellydance Superstars offer a remixed version of what one might expect from the genre. Since their first tour (in conjunction with Lollapalooza 2003), BDSS’s fusion of tribal, modern, and traditional (Middle Eastern and North African) styles has continued to evolve. Seven hundred subsequent performances in 22 countries have informed the “transformation of dance tradition into stage spectacle” they’ve become famous for. For the 75-stop Bombay Bellywood tour, the San Francisco-based troupe (which has been described as “poised to be the next Riverdance”) adds classical Indian dance to its global repertoire. $32-$45, 8pm, the Empire Theatre, 226 N. St. Mary’s, (210) 226-3333, majesticempire.com, bellydancesuperstars.com.
