Presented by Proyectos Locos (Ramon Vasquez y Sanchez, Deborah Keller-Rihn, Erik Bosse, and Henry de Leon) and the American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (an organization dedicated to the preservation of the culture and traditions of the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation and other indigenous people of south Texas and northern Mexico), Noche de Recuerdos will commemorate departed loved ones in a creative evening of remembrance. This first annual event includes native music and drumming, poetry readings, and a symbolic launching of illuminated floating altars into the casting pool adjacent to Woodlawn Lake. Free, 6-10pm (launch at dusk), 138 S Josephine Tobin Dr, aitscm.org. Get involved: If you’d like to bring an altar, make sure it floats, is 3’-10’ across, and is illuminated in some way. No candles or open flames allowed. Volunteers will be on hand between noon and 5pm for assistance. For more information, call (210) 482-0273.
