The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (which attracts in excess of 3.5 million to the streets of NY while another 50 million watch on NBC) it ain’t. And thank God. In picturesque River City, there’s no danger of getting showered with debris falling from dangerously-large likenesses of Dudley the Dragon (1995), the Cat in the Hat (1997), or kamikaze M&M’s (2005). Instead, SA’s colorful kickoff to the holiday season boasts 122,000 twinkling lights that form a “magical canopy” for 25 tricked-out floats carrying bands, local celebs, and plenty of cheer. A perfect choice: “Elf” Louise Locker will serve as Grand Marshal for this year’ parade, the theme of which is “The Spirit of Giving.” $10-$25, lighting ceremony at 7pm, parade lasts for one hour along the San Antonio River Walk.
