Chicago House pioneer Mark Farina slides into Mink Ultra Lounge this weekend to drop his latest album Mushroom Jazz 7 on local technoheads. A DJ from an age when technique beat mash-ups every time, Farina is known for fluid performances and a signature blend of hip-hop, jazz, downtempo, and dance beats, aka Mushroom Jazz. His style burst out of Chicago’s late ’80s house scene, and mixtapes made throughout the ’90s helped cement his cult following and began the long-running Mushroom Jazz album series on Om Records. Farina still holds his own on the “World’s Best DJ” list and can command up to $10,000 a performance, which makes the $10 cover seem like a particularly good deal. With Sun City Hustlers and Joe Berry, $10 in advance; $15 at the door; $20 for minors; 9pm Fri, Dec 10, Mink Ultra Lounge, 903 E Bitters, minkultralounge.com. — Callie Enlow
