No, Saytown doesn’t get a giant ball drop, but it also doesn’t get annoying blizzards, either. The San Antonio Parks Foundation’s annual extravaganza attracts a reported 250,000 for live music on four stages, kid-friendly activities, and a countdown to the kind of fireworks spectacular only Valero could spring for (no offense, H-E-B). URBAN-15 kicks off the festivities at the entrance to HemisFair Park (6pm), followed by Take Note (6:30pm), Philo Beddo (8pm), and Ice 9 (9:45pm). Rhythm Kings (6:30pm) and Rocky Hernandez & the OBG Band (9:15pm) play Rio San Antonio Cruises Pop & Rock Stage (Market and Alamo), while Maverick Plaza’s International Stage hosts La Fuerza (6:30pm) and Artie V y Grupo Suave (9:45pm). For a slightly more controlled environment, head to the Arneson River Theatre, where musicians and dance troupes such as Innercity with Style, Danza Vida de San Antonio, Celeste Curiel, Alamotion, Kid Dynamic, and Eternal Flame take over the H-E-B Family Stage. Free, 6pm-12:30am, S Alamo between Market and Durango and throughout La Villita, saparksfoundation.org, celebratesa.org.
