Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-02-16

Aiming to empower young women in East and Southeast San Antonio, the Martinez Street Women’s Center’s afterschool program Studio4FM invited girls (age 9-14) to “pick up a camera and document their community under the guidance of a professional photographer.” The teen and tween shutterbugs learned useful skills by capturing family traditions and holidays, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Day march. See the end results of this community-focused mentorship when the Girls with Cameras exhibit opens Friday. Free, 7pm, Gevers Street Art Studio, 718 S Gevers, (210) 534-6638, mswomenscenter.org.
