Former Strokes and Regina Spektor producer Gordon Raphael has been recording local and not-so-local bands in San Antonio since December 2010, but this show is the first time that he will step into the literal spotlight with his brand new band in SA. Scratch that: he hasn’t played in the U.S. at all since 2001, when he toured as keyboardist for the Psychedelic Furs. Besides Raphael (guitar/vocals), the Hipsters are Hunter Jackson (bass/vocals), John McWha (guitar), Alex Wash (keyboards/vocals), and Chuck Kerr on drums (the Current’s art director and a member of We Leave at Midnight and Marcus Rubio and the Gospel Choir of Pillows). “My music is inspired by psychedelic rock, the original punk movement, and a bit of big-city glamour to keep it neatly tied together,” said Gordon, who started playing live shows at age 13 and claims to have been “in about 50 bands so far,” including Analog Poodle in Germany (the last one) and Black Light In London in 2004. The night closes with Great 85 and Deer Vibes. Free, 11pm, Limelight, 2718 N St. Mary’s, (210) 735-7775.
