Solar San Antonio’s “Run on the Sun” 5K kicks off the award-winning nonprofit’s Solar Fest: “Texas’ only 100% renewably powered event.” The kid- and pet-friendly day in the park offers live music on a solar-powered stage (The Saturday Night Satellites, Peacefield, and Slick Dickens are all on the bill), resources galore (dozens of exhibitors and installers will be on hand to shed light on what it means to go solar), and quality fun for kids (Who could resist a spin in a “human hamster ball” or a chance to meet Chorty the Chorizo?). Among the high-tech highlights you can expect from Solar Fest: The Audi A3 Clean Diesel (Green Car of the Year 2010) and other modes of green transport, solar-powered air conditioning units, and other things you didn’t know you needed — like a solar-powered toilet, for example. To register for “Run on the Sun,” which starts at 8 a.m. and is led by a solar-powered buggy from The Alamo City Electric Auto Association, stop by Run Wild Sports (300 E Grayson) or visit iaapweb.com. Free, 9am-4pm, Maverick Park, 1000 Broadway, solarfestsa.com.
