The timeless music of Astor Piazzolla, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and other greats gets a fresh new twist in Musical Offerings’ “Jazz Meets Classical XIX…Meets Dance,” an eclectic program based on fruitful collaborations between classical and jazz musicians. Part of the chamber music organization’s 27th season, the 19th installment of “Jazz Meets Classical” includes Charles Mingus’ “Haitian Fight Song,” Leonard Bernstein’s “Cool,” Piazzolla’s “Libertango,” and James Scott Balentine’s “Nine Wild, Exotic Dances,” performed by a 12-piece ensemble. As a visual bonus, Michelle Pietri, Director of Opera and Dance at UTSA, has choreographed corresponding jitterbug, be-bop, tango, and contemporary numbers for guest dancers who’ll complement performances on Monday and Tuesday evenings. $8-$10; 7pm Mon, May 16; San Antonio Museum of Art, 200 W Jones, (210) 978-8100, samuseum.org. $10-$12; 7pm Tue, May 17; Ruth Taylor Concert Hall, Trinity University, One Trinity Place, (210) 999-8117, musicalofferings.org.
