Again, Walmart continues playing the role of "me too" in the technology space in order to capitalize on the desires of those who either refuse to commit to or cannot afford subscription services. This strategy continues to work for Walmart because they have positioned their brand as the "affordable alternative." This service fails to add anything compelling other than price. On the one hand, this is beneficial in that VUDU may provide an opportunity to help grant media access to a broader community. On the other hand, they are trying to compete in an extremely competitive space. Unless VUDU provides exclusive content their target communities find valuable I don't see how they will effectively compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, and other providers of streaming content.
