After a poor start in the 2013 season, the visiting San Antonio Scorpions beat Tampa Bay Rowdies (3-3-4) 2-1. It was the team's first away win and the first time this year the Scorpions win back-to-back victories. The game was watched by a crowd of 4,595 at St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday.
The goals were scored by Blake Wagner in the 35th minute off an indirect free-kick inside the penalty area, after a disputed Jey Needham back pass to Tampa Bay goalie Diego Restrepo. The home team equalized via a Carl Cort header in the 75th minute. Minutes after entering the field, substitute Hans Dennisen put the Scorpions ahead for good, with a superb low shot from the right side with three minutes left.
With the victory, the Scorpions (3-2-4) avenged their 0-2 home loss against the same team in April and have 11 points, three more than last-place Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The Scorpions will now face Edmonton F.C. (2-5-3) 8:30pm Saturday, June 22 at Toyota Field (the Scorpions lost at Edmonton 0-1). Buy single tickets here and season tickets here.
