“So I’ll tell you, we have our work cut out for us. We need to send Barack Obama back to Chicago. I’d like to send him back to Kenya,” said Cruz, a Dallas-area evangelical pastor.
His remark is straight out of the right-wing ‘birther movement’ strategy to mischaracterize Obama as a Kenyan-born Socialist Muslim, despite the president's documented U.S. citizenship. Interestingly, it’s actually the Cruz family who are technically immigrants – Rafael Cruz is Cuban-born while his son was born in Alberta, Canada.
Seeking to distance the comments from the senator, a spokesperson told Mother Jones, “Pastor Cruz does not speak for the senator.” However, the article points out Rafael Cruz routinely, "speaks to tea party and Republican groups in Texas as a surrogate for his son."
