Van de Putte, extensively profiled in the Current’s March 26 cover story, will make appearances in cities including McAllen, El Paso, Midland, Nacogdoches and Houston. After driving an estimated 2,500 miles in nine days, Van de Putte will end her tour April 7 in Austin.
“I’m traveling all around Texas because I want to hear from Texans and discuss our shared vision for the Lone Star state,” she said in a statement. “This race is about the future of Texas, it’s about my kids and my grandkids. It’s about what we do each day to make Texas a better place to do business, work, learn, and love. I’m excited to show Texans I’m up for the challenge. ”
In November, Van de Putte faces either Republican challenger state Sen. Dan Patrick (R-Houston) or incumbent lieutenant governor David Dewhurst, who go head to head in a May 27 runoff election.
