Members of the Texas Legislature are totally gay for their controversial and unconstitutional anti-gay bill. The Texas Senate resurrected a zombie bill barring same-sex marriage yesterday.

Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-Brownville, added the tiresome, anti-gay provision to a simple House bill on county government.

Only two weeks earlier, the Texas House struck down legislation designed to undermine a potential U.S. Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage.

The Senate Intergovernmental Affairs Committee first approved the revised bill Monday night. Sen. José Menéndez of San Antonio voted against it.

American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, Equality Texas, Texas Freedom Network and the Human Rights Campaign voice concerns that the revised bill entirely disregards the supremacy clause of the Constitution, allows open discrimination and costs taxpayers millions in litigation.

Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network, called Lucio's efforts a reckless move that callously betrays loving couples who simply want to embark on a lifetime commitment while protecting their families the same way everyone else does.

“Every senator, regardless of party, should reject this revised bill and save Texas from the same firestorm of criticism that swept through Indiana and other states that have passed legislation promoting discrimination against LGBT people and their families,” she said in a press release.
