VIA Transit Votes To Bolster B-Cycle

Two months ago, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff suggested VIA Metropolitan Transit include San Antonio B-Cycle in its multi-modal transportation plan.

"With VIA's mission to strengthen regional mobility, development and sustainability by providing an outstanding multi-modal transportation system, Bcycle would be a perfect fit with its 55 stations, 450 bicycles and 2,893 members," Wolff said at the time.

Last night, VIA's board of trustees voted to do just that, Texas Public Radio reported.

However, all the vote means is that the transportation organization will look at services and funding it can provide, according to the TPR report.

At its mid-year budget adjustment, the City of San Antonio approved $120,000 in funding for the program through hotel and energy efficiency taxes.

That infusion came after unpaid executive director Cindi Snell announced her resignation, citing a lack of a corporate sponsor and city funding.

Those funds will be used for hiring a new executive director and to prepare for a sustainable expansion of the program.
