Here's something that's not really new, but is definitely different: tap water taste contests.

Why in the world are we even bringing this up?

Well, that would be because back in June, Universal City won second place for best tasting tap water in the nation.

Hosted by the American Water Works Association, and in its 11th year, the "Best of the Best" Tap Water Taste Test rates water systems based on flavor characteristics.

The big winner this year was Big Sky County Water & Sewer District in Big Sky, Montana.

In April, Universal City won another water contest, this one on the state level. The contest between 18 Texas water utilities took place in what we assume was an action-packed event in Corpus Christi. That's where Universal City won the "Best Tasting Water in Texas" competition, KRISTV reported.

Turns out the private sector has a big water contest too. They call it the "Oscars of water," where the industry competes against each other in a small West Virginia town called Berkely Springs. A BuzzFeed contributor immersed into the scene and wrote a lengthy story about it.

If this has got you thinking about what's in your tap water, here's a link to the San Antonio Water System's water quality reports.
