With San Antonio ride-share enthusiasts waiting to hear when Lyft will begin operating its pilot program, one state representative says in his newsletter that Uber is close to striking a deal with the city.

State Rep. Lyle Larson says in his newsletter that the compromise includes allowing drivers to submit to a voluntary fingerprint check and allowing riders to cancel trips without being charged if they learn their driver hasn't taken the fingerprint check.

We received great news earlier this summer when Lyft announced it will begin operating again in San Antonio soon. Last week, we learned that Uber and the City of San Antonio are close to approving a deal that would bring Uber services back to our community through a pilot program. Highlights of the compromise include allowing drivers to submit to a voluntary fingerprint check and allowing riders to cancel trips without being charged if they learn that their driver hasn't submitted to the fingerprint check.

Both Uber and Lyft pulled out of San Antonio earlier this year, calling the city's regulations burdensome.

Lyft was the first to strike a deal with San Antonio for a pilot program, but hasn't announced when it will start operating.
