Jeff Judson for Texas House District 121 | Facebook
Well, this is as much a doozy as it is a logical leap that isn't intellectually honest. But, hey, this is politics, right?
This morning Jeff Judson, a conservative Tea Party member who is running for Texas House District 121 in an effort to unseat longtime speaker Joe Straus, released an email accusing his opponent of murder.
The subject line for his campaign's email blast says: "Is Straus to blame for murder? Judson says yes!"
That's a heavy accusation.
Here's Judson's logic: A man named Spencer Golvach was murdered in Houston in early 2015, allegedly by an undocumented immigrant named Victor Rodriguez Reyes who had been deported multiple times. Judson, and other Tea Party-types, allege that Golvach wouldn't have met such a tragic fate if the Texas Legislature had passed a bill banning Sanctuary Cities — a concept where local law enforcement don't ask about immigration status, which is practically the case regardless if a municipality considers itself a Sanctuary City.
"The tragic death of Spencer Golvach reveals that Joe Straus is truly unfit to continue to represent the people of House District 121," Judson says. "His duplicity has been revealed, claiming on the one hand that he's tough on border security, while pro-actively killing the ban on Sanctuary Cities. But now the truth is out and the voters in this election will know that Straus's active sabotage of this legislation had deadly consequences, just as was predicted."
Judson is piggy-backing off of an advertisement released by the Young Conservatives of Texas PAC of the victim's father blaming Straus for the death of his son. The video was released in conjunction with early voting, which runs between February 16 to 26, leading up to the March 1 Republican Primary.
