The possibility of Mary Lou Bruner winning a seat on the Texas Board of Education is terrifying, given her disregard of facts.

Late last year, the North Texas candidate posted to Facebook, saying President Barack Obama was a male prostitute while in his 20s so that he could fuel a drug habit.

You'd hope statements like that would immediately disqualify a candidate in the eyes of voters, but that might not be the case. And you'd think after national media made a mockery of her distorted allegations that she'd disappear into the vast landscape of Trump-esque acolytes whose only outlet is the Internet.

Not so. In fact, in an interview with KERA public media in Denton, she doubled down.

“If he’s on drugs, then how did he pay for them?” she tells KERA. “There’s two ways that people on welfare pay for drugs — they prostitute themselves or they steal.”

Bruner admitted to KERA that her Facebook postings are controversial, but she says she's only exercising her First Amendment right to make batshit crazy statements.

If Bruner is elected, expect the State Board of Education to continue to be an unfortunate comedic punchline instead of an organization that actually seeks to better improve the educational opportunities for Texas' youth.
