The Animal Defense League of Texas and San Antonio Pets Alive are preparing to assist fellow shelters in the path of Hurricane Harvey, which is expected to be the biggest hurricane in the U.S. since 2005, and are calling for pet foster volunteers.

If the need arises for emergency fosters, the ADL is asking San Antonians to help find temporary homes for the shelter's cats and dogs. The shelter says it expects the greatest need times will be between Friday and Saturday. If interested in fostering an animal, visit adltexas.org and sign up to volunteer — the shelter will contact volunteers with specific information for pickup times and locations and the expected duration time for fostering an animal.

In order to prepare for the needs of housing pets potentially displaced by the hurricane, San Antonio Pets Alive is also calling for foster volunteers and donations. "We really need the community to step up and help not only SAPA!’s existing population," says SAPA's Operations Director Clare Callison, "but the next round of animals who will be incoming to the city shelter.” You can donate to SAPA here and apply to foster a pet at sanantoniopetsalive.org/foster.
