A beluga whale was born Sunday afternoon at San Antonio's very own SeaWorld. The 125-pound baby is dark gray in appearance for but will turn more white as it ages toward maturity in roughly five years.

Park veterinarians and animal care staff monitored the mother, named Crissy, as she gave birth around 12:34 p.m.

There is no word on what gender the baby whale is since animal care specialists will not examine the calf until it is old enough. Chris Bellows, the park's vice president for zoological operations told MySA.com that staff members will monitor the baby's nursing, breathing and other vitals.

Beluga Stadium will be closed for the timebeing to allow Crissy to bond with her newborn, though the park will allow special times for visitors to view the calf.
