Congressman Blake Farenthold told a Corpus Christi news station he is "doing his best" by paying taxpayers back for the $84,000 he used to settle a sexual harrassment case against him in 2014.

Apparently, "doing his best" means waiting three years for an investigation to unveil the misused funds before returning the thousands of dollars to the public.

"I'm going to hand a check over this week to probably [U.S. House Speaker Paul] Ryan or somebody," Farenthold, a Republican who represents Corpus Christi, told NBC affiliate KRISTV on Monday. "I want to be clear that I didn't do anything wrong. But I also don't want the taxpayers to be on the hook for this."

According to a Politico investigation, Farenthold quietly used those funds to settle a lawsuit brought to him by former communications staffer Lauren Greene, who said the congressman told her about his "wet dreams" and made jokes about semen on her clothing — along with other workplace sexual harassment.

Farenthold told KRISTV he plans out taking out a personal loan to repay the settlement this week.
