A federal inmate escaped from an East Texas prison to retrieve a duffle bag full of contraband just to be caught by authorities when trying to sneak back in.

Joshua Hansen of Dallas was allegedly caught by Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals on Wednesday night, according a post on the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page.

A vehicle was seen driving on a rancher's private property outside of the prison around 5:45 p.m. According to the post, someone got out of the vehicle, dropped off a large, black duffle bag and then drove away.

Hours later, an inmate was seen running across that same property to get the bag, which had fruit, snack packs, three bottles of brandy, a bottle of whiskey and multiple bags of Bugler tobacco. According to the photos attached to the Facebook post, the bag also contained multiple trays and containers of home-cooked foods, including BBQ sausage and fried chicken.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Marcus McLellan told the Beaumont Enterprise that it's not uncommon for non-violent offenders and inmates on work release to walk off of prison property to bring contraband items back in.
