San Antonians will have two opportunities to get their social-justice fight on this Saturday, with the 22nd Annual Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice and the first-ever March For Our Lives taking over downtown.
The Cesar E. Chavez march
, honoring the labor, human- and civil rights leader, will begin bright and early with a "blessing of the march" worship service at 8:30 a.m. at 1301 Guadalupe St., near the Guadalupe Theater. The march, dedicated to "building bridges for education, non-violence and social justice," kicks off at 10 a.m.
Andres P. Chavez, Cesar E. Chavez's grandson, will serve as grand marshal of the parade.
There will also be a performance
by the Latin Grammy award-winning Joe Posada. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations
to benefit the San Antonio Food Bank.
Also on Saturday, San Antonio, along with 838 other cities around the world
, will host a united march against gun violence
. Inspired by the actions of the student survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14, March For Our Lives – San Antonio
will meet in front of City Hall. Attendees can also take advantage of a free ride from Lyft
