An 18-year-old man was shot and killed by a San Antonio police officer early Wednesday morning.
called to a West Side home around 1 a.m. on Wednesday for an assault on a person who had been "selling something" at the door. Police chief William McManus said people inside the house had cussed and yelled at the officer that was later involved in the shooting.
The officer said he noticed a gun in the waistband of one of the people at the home, and then "used deadly force," McManus said. The chief didn't clarify whether the victim, identified as Charles Roundtree
, ever pulled the weapon out of his waistband or threatened to use it on the officer.
Roundtree died at the scene.
A second person was shot at the home and transported to a hospital for treatment. That person's condition is not known at this time.
In a Facebook live video, McManus told reporters that the officer is a five-year veteran of the department and has been placed on administrative leave for the duration of the investigation.
