As Election Day comes to an end with final poll results called by political experts, incumbent Ted Cruz has won the U.S. Senate race in Texas, one of the most high-profile and expensive races in the country.

It was a tight contest since polls closed, with Cruz and Democratic rival Beto O'Rourke taking turns in the lead throughout the night. About two and a half hours after the polls closed, Cruz was named the winner with 51.2 percent of votes (3,364,171) with roughly 43 percent of precincts reporting at press time.
O'Rourke was not too far behind with about 48.1 percent of the vote, or 3,163,245 votes.

As is expected, local politicians and national celebrities alike took to Twitter to voice their disappointment in O'Rourke falling short. Actors, athletes, public figures and everyday citizens alike were vocal about the outcome.
