Homicide detectives are working to answer questions about a man's death after his body was discovered in Woodlawn Lake.
While walking around the West Side lake on Sunday afternoon, a woman spotted a body
near a dam. The woman called police
, who then requested backup from local firefighters to use a boat to pull the man out of the water.
The man has not been identified at this time, but authorities have described him as being Latino and in his 50s
. Police are unsure about how long his body was in the water.
"Woodlawn Lake is not deep. I have seen it before when it has been drained. You can stand up out there," said Carlos Ortiz, a spokesman for the police department, told KSAT
. "We are just going to have to wait to see what the investigation reveals."
He said authorities are investigating whether the incident was "an apparent sudden death."
Ortiz told the Express-News
that the man's body didn't have any apparent signs of trauma
, but that there are "still many unknowns" about the man's death. An autopsy will be performed to determine a cause of death.
