Among the long list of films debuting at this year's South by Southwest festival is none other than Running with Beto
, which gives an inside look at Beto O'Rourke's campaign to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz.
Though we all know how the campaign ended, the documentary gives a behind-the-scenes look at O'Rourke's rise from a relatively unknown figure to a nationally recognized political player. Director David Modigliani and his crew followed O'Rourke during the year leading up to the 2018 midterm elections, filming O'Rourke and his team as they traveled across all 254 Texas counties.
Billing his run as an "unconventional campaign," the documentary reveals O'Rourke's challenges and wins as he "navigates an onslaught of negative advertising, inevitable strain on his family, and the pressure of delivering for legions of supporters."
While many Beto supporters are unlikely to catch the SXSW screening, we're sure the former El Paso congressman will tease out clips of the documentary on his social media channels.
