San Poke
20770 US 281 N, (210) 998-2556, sanpoketx.com
San Poke is SO. GOOD. There’s not a whole lot else that needs to be said, really, as long as you’re a sushirrito or poke lover. If you’re not into raw fish, don’t worry. They’ve got cooked eel and pulled pork (also, how puro is that?) as alternatives to raw fish. If you don’t like poke in general, you can still go for the yummy bubble tea. In short, we’re telling you to try this new spot.

The Brooklynite
516 Brooklyn Ave, (210) 444-0707, thebrooklynitesa.com
Yes, The Brooklynite is closing, but it’s not the end of the world. It will be opening again later this spring at a different, more intimate location close to the Pearl. Not only will the building and interior be more beautiful than before, but the menu will be reimagined. While the previous menu was certainly delicious, the upcoming menu will be even more inspired.

Bar America
723 S Alamo St, (210) 223-1285, baramericasatx.com
Yeah, yeah – we know that Bar America didn’t just open. It’s been open since, like, your grandparents were born. The thing we’re excited about this month was the opening of their new rooftop patio and mural, which you can now visit and enjoy your comfort food and drinks overlooking the Alamo City.

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery
11255 Huebner Rd Suite 100, (210) 962-5530, snoozeeatery.com
We know what you’re thinking – hey! Snooze isn’t *that* new, and it definitely didn’t just open this month. We know, but the newest San Antonio location just did. Which is good, because as anyone who has tried the other Snooze locations knows, they’re really popular. We need more! What can we say?

Can you say fast-casual taqueria opening in the Medical Center? We can, and we’re cheering for it. And if you’re in a hurry, they’ll be adding a drive-thru soon as well, so you can get your new favorite burritos and tacos on the go.

River City Seafood
115 N Loop 1604 E, Ste 1108, (210) 233-6790, rivercityseafoodgrill.com
Another seafood-themed closure? What do San Antonians have against fish? Or are we just moving towards trendier oceanic fare, like sushi and poke? Regardless of the reason, River City Seafood also closed its doors this February.

Cajun Coffee Shack
11514 Potranco Road, facebook.com
The Cajun Coffee Shack had a soft opening on January 23, but that doesn’t mean we’re not still excited about it this month. Their drink options feature flavorful and sweet coffee drinks, Italian and cream sodas, and an ever-growing menu of desserts, pastries, and drink add-ins.

King's Palace
3304 Broadway St, (210) 824-0279, kingspalacesa.net
How many more restaurants will close on Broadway, in addition to Picante Grill and Sonic? The latest casualty is King’s Palace, a Chinese restaurant that served San Antonio for a little more than two decades. Allegedly, they plan to open a new location in the not-too-distant future close to the Broadway location, so that’s what we’re hoping for.

Miss Chickpeas Bakeshop
8065 Callaghan Road, (210) 993-0748, facebook.com
What used to be a vegan-friendly pop-up bakeshop is now a full-fledged vegan bakery. Which, thank gosh, because anyone who has special dietary needs or preferences or food allergies knows how challenging it can be to find tasty foods that are friendly to their diet.

Volare Pizza
5054 Broadway St, (210) 828-3354, volarepizzasa.com
Opened in the building that used to house the classic Olmos Pharmacy, Volare Pizza is another San Antonio tradition. Their other location opened in the early ‘70s, making them one of the first family-owned pizzerias in the Alamo City. With this addition to the family in a location so iconic to San Antonio’s past, it’s gotta be good.

Roosevelt Buffet
119 S Flores St, (210) 227-6632, facebook.com
Will South Flores ever be the same? One of San Antonio’s oldest and proudest dive bars, which was open for more than three-quarters of a century, closed its doors in early February. While there’s hope yet that they will change up their decades-old business plan and open again in a new location, there are no solid plans right now.

Ruben’s Backyard
13838 Jones Maltsberger Rd, (210) 314-7889,
Ruben’s Backyard had a soft opening on January 29 in the building that used to be MoMack’s Malts and Burgers. Ruben’s Backyard, however, is a cleaner and more grown-up version of that while still keeping the play area for the kids and featuring a larger patio than before.
