This week at Sam’s, we’ve got a real summer sizzler of a show, featuring three of the best local acts. Lonely Horse, for starters, should be no stranger to our readers. The core Lonely duo of Nick Long (guitar/vocals) and Travis Hild (drums) has been seemingly on the verge of a big breakthrough for damn near a decade, charming local audiences and audiences around the country with its emotionally and sonically intense, blues-infused, desert rock. The Rich Hands, meanwhile, has released music through darling indie labels Fountain and Resurrection Records and generally staked its claim by consistently releasing solid retro garage rock. Rounding out the bill, D.T. Buffkin, who dropped one of our favorite local albums of the year back in May, will offer up his sophisticated yet soulful sound, which, chameleon-like, varies from crooning soul numbers to twangy Americana, from sweaty rock ’n’ roll to arresting cabaret-influenced piano jams.
